Quality – in the broadest sense of the term – really is the main objective of the organization: quality of the product, quality of customer service, quality of raw materials, all complemented by an unflagging dedication to customer satisfaction.
Also fundamental is the commitment to the regulation of the raw material, starting from the first point in the production chain. Most of the milk is actually supplied by members, who undergo a lengthy series of controls in order to guarantee a product that is always fresh and pure and that displays the particular inherent characteristics of taste, aroma, consistency, colour, etc.
With a view to reaching this objective, La Marchesa has attained certification as per the requirements of UNI (Ente nazionale italiano di Unificazione nell’Industria – the Italian National Association for Standardization) and ISO (the International Organization for Standardization), Standard ISO 9001, and is subject to a very stringent HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) system, thus allowing its products to be exported to countries including France, Germany and the United States, where there are extremely strict regulations on the permission to import goods. In addition, as a member of the Consorzio per la Tutela del formaggio Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP (Denominazione di origine protetta), the Consortium for the Protection of Buffalo Mozzarella of Campania with PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) status, the organization is subject to further product certification.
All of this, therefore, represents a dual guarantee of quality, firstly from DOP status, which is compulsory by law and is guaranteed by the consortium, and secondly by a voluntary form of certification, for which the organization applied to a different certification body, so as to guarantee the utmost impartiality in inspections. Furthermore, the organization is on the way to attaining BRC (British Retail Consortium) and IFS (International Food Standard) certification – process which should be complete by the end of 2007. La Marchesa also complies with the provisions as laid down by regulation CE 178/2002 concerning product traceability along the production chain. Last but not least, the organization is preparing to take steps towards attaining ISO 14001-standard certification.

On the occasion of TUTTOFOOD, the Milan World Food Exhibition, held in Milan from 5-8 May 2007, a special initiative entitled TUTTOFOOD CHEESE AWARD was put together. The TUTTOFOOD CHEESE AWARD is a special prize reserved for TUTTOFOOD exhibitors, which aims to highlight the best European cheeses with DOP (Denominazione di origine protetta - Protected Designation of Origin) status and speciality cheeses, in order to increase knowledge about them and reinforce their presence in international markets.
There are various categories of DOP cheese in the competition: cow’s milk, sheep’s milk, buffalo’s milk (in fresh, hard and soft texture forms) and blue-vein.
Our organization’s Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP achieved first prize in this special category. The first three places were awarded the TUTTOFOOD mark of quality, which can be featured on the prize-winning cheese’s packaging.
